Why teams leave VBA

Macros get blocked. Office blocks macros by default in files from the internet, including email attachments.
SharePoint and Excel on the web. VBA doesn't run in the browser, so macros only work in the desktop app.
Leaving Office. Moving to LibreOffice or Python means the macros come along or get replaced.
The author left. Nobody knows what the code does, so nobody wants to touch it.

Start with an inventory in Cellwright

Cellwright reads every macro-enabled workbook in a folder without opening Excel or running code. It lists modules, forms and controls, flags hard cases, and estimates rough effort.

Choose a target for each macro

Office Scripts to stay on Microsoft 365 and run in Excel on the web or Power Automate.
Power Query for macros that only import, clean and reshape data.
Python when the workbook is really a small program, or the data has outgrown Excel.
LibreOffice Basic or Python when leaving Office. Cellwright generates starting code next to the original.

Questions

Can't I just use a converter?

For simple macros, yes. Forms, ActiveX controls, events and Windows API calls need a person; that checklist is the part I take on.

Does our code leave our network?

Not for the inventory. For the rebuild, I work in your systems where possible and use only the access the project needs. Read how I handle your data.
